Chapter 9

Abraham Michael Fenn was admittedly an odd one, but Blaire thought she rather liked him. On a personal level, that was. She'd have to be dead to not like him on a purely aesthetic level. As long as he wasn't coughing, tripping over his feet, or suddenly unable to speak, he was legitimately the most attractive man she'd ever seen. She could spend hours just looking at those dark eyes and the long lashes and that thick hair she wanted to curl her fingers into. She could think of a lot of situations where having her hands knotted in that hair would be…really good.

Really, really good. Good enough to get her hot around the collar just thinking about it. But the funny thing was, even though she could get heated up thinking about him, she also had a powerful urge to just…hang out with him.

She had an urge to do more than that, obviously, but not in a quick hookup kind of way. She wanted to get to know him. She wanted to know what on earth it was that made him keep fumbling around her. He'd sort of indicated it was her beauty, but Blaire had been pretty most of her life without rendering guys unable to speak to her. There was something else going on.

Maybe he was just shy, though. Some guys were, even staggeringly gorgeous ones. Either way, he'd gotten over it enough to ask her out on a date—or two, or three, if the invitation to the hot springs counted as a third. Or a second. She still wasn't sure if they could have two dates in one day or if that was just one long date.

Her phone buzzed and she pulled it out as she went into the B&B. The man she'd seen before held the door for her and she gave an absent smile of thanks as her best friend's picture came up with a question beneath it: how's small town living? Ready to come back to the real world yet?

Not yet! Blaire texted back. Cute guy asked me out possibly as many as three times, choir practice went well, I didn't break my neck ice skating.

Wait, 3 times? Speak more!

Blaire, grinning, texted an explanation, and Angie responded with oh that's def 3 dates, when's the wedding

"Oh my God, hold your horses," Blaire muttered aloud, and send a hold-your-horses gif back.

- Fiiiiine whatEVar but I'm your best woman, right?

Blaire's eyebrows rose. Are maids of honor passé?

- Babe, I haven't been a maid in a donkey's years, and ain't nobody calling me ‘matron,' capiche?

You're my bestie forever, Blaire promised. Honorable or not.

- Hey! I said I wasn't a maid, not that I wasn't honorable!

Details, details. I'm turning in, today was longer than I expected.

Blaire put the phone away, then took it out again to look at the when's the wedding question. "I'm not thinking about marrying a guy I haven't even kissed," she told the phone.
